Digital Equity · Community Program
The digital skills modern life assumes you already have.
Patient portals, benefits applications, job boards, telehealth, banking — all digital-first, all assuming skills millions of adults were never taught. Our Digital Equity program meets people where they are and walks them from their first folder to spotting a scam.
Grant-eligible · free to participants

Why this matters
When access goes digital, the people without skills go without.
A missed telehealth link gets logged as a no-show. A portal someone can't log into becomes a lapsed benefit. In a rural county where broadband and devices are already scarce, the gap between “has the skills” and “doesn't” quietly decides who keeps their housing, their care, and their job. This program closes that gap — practically, and for good.
The curriculum
Three pillars, one outcome: real digital independence.
Every cohort works through the same foundation. How deep we go depends on the program length.
Life Skills & Organizing
The everyday digital habits that hold a stable life together.
- Google tools — Gmail, Calendar, Keep checklists, Sheets
- Phone file management — folders, app shortcuts, finding things fast
- Password management — strong passwords without losing them
- Emergency tools — emergency contacts, saving digital files & records
- Online maps & trip planning — getting to appointments and interviews
- Budgeting & banking tools — paying bills and tracking money online
Portal Navigation & Icon Familiarity
Recognizing the icons and moving through the portals modern life now runs on.
- Telehealth — joining virtual appointments with confidence
- Hospital & patient portals — messages, records, prescriptions
- Housing search — using filters to find what fits
- Career & job search — applications, uploads, follow-through
- Online shopping — safely and on a budget
- 413Cares.org — food, legal help, schools & libraries
Information Literacy & Cyber-Hygiene
Staying safe — and telling what is real from what is built to fool you.
- Email scams — spotting and avoiding them
- Call & text scams — creating family safe words
- News literacy — checking sources before you share
- Marketplace & online-shopping scams — buying and selling safely
Everyday AI
Woven through the 6- and 10-week tiers — because AI is already in the tools people use every day. We make it a help, not a hazard.
- Using AI assistants safely — what to share, and what never to
- Spotting AI-generated scams, deepfakes, and fake reviews
- Letting AI help — drafting an email, understanding a letter, prepping for an interview
Program lengths
Choose the depth the cohort needs.
Priced per cohort (about 10–15 participants) and grant-eligible under programs like the Digital Equity Act and WIOA — so a funder or partner covers the program and participants attend free.

How it's delivered
Designed for the people who get left behind.
Hands-on & judgment-free
We start where each person is. No jargon, no rushing, no one made to feel behind.
On their own devices
People learn on the phone or laptop they actually own, so the skills transfer the moment they leave the room.
Low-bandwidth friendly
Built for rural Berkshire realities — limited broadband never blocks participation.
Delivered inside your program
Small-group cohorts run on-site within partner facilities, with take-home guides for every session.
Outcomes
What it looks like when the barrier comes down.
- Joining telehealth visits and using patient portals without help
- Managing passwords, files, and appointments independently
- Spotting email, call, and text scams before they cause harm
- For partners: fewer missed appointments, portal lockouts, and “non-compliance” dropouts
