Why Pivot

Why these communities disengage — and how we change it.

Anyone can run a digital-skills slideshow. Getting older adults, people in recovery, and people coming home to actually show up, engage, and keep going takes something else: understanding why the systems failed them first.

The Pivot Point approach

We don’t teach code.
We teach judgment.

  1. 01Get connectedDevices, email and the everyday tools that open doors.
  2. 02Practice a real taskPortals, applications and the next thing you need to do.
  3. 03Build confidenceSafer choices, better questions and skills to keep using.

Technology education, with the person at the center.

"I operate in the space where policy ends and real life begins."

Cultural competence

What "culturally aligned" actually means here.

It is not a buzzword. It is the practical reason our cohorts hold and others empty out.

01

The barrier is rarely the technology

It is the feeling of being made to look behind, watched, or judged. People who have been failed by systems do not disengage because a portal is hard — they disengage because the room does not feel safe. Cultural alignment fixes that first.

02

These communities were shut out by design

Rural broadband gaps, the cost of devices, and policy that assumes skills nobody taught — older adults, people in recovery, and people coming home were systematically left on the wrong side of the digital divide. Meeting them well means naming that, not ignoring it.

03

Lived experience earns the trust credentials cannot

15+ years inside Berkshire County's recovery and justice systems means I have navigated the exact roadblocks the people I teach are facing. That shared experience lowers resistance and turns a service into a relationship.

Also offered · specialist work

Recovery & Reentry Navigation.

Drawing on the same lived experience, I also walk beside people through the systems that derail recovery — court, probation, housing, benefits, treatment, and employment. Delivered inside your program, under your supervision, protocols, and records. CPS certification is in progress (Kiva Centers).

Court dates

Showing up prepared, on time, and not alone for hearings and check-ins.

Probation requirements

Translating conditions into plain, doable steps so nothing becomes an accidental violation.

Housing applications

Vouchers, waitlists, and paperwork — navigated end to end.

Treatment intake

Getting through the door of care without the process becoming the barrier.

Benefits enrollment

Applications and renewals that gate food, healthcare, and income.

Employment steps

From documents to interviews — the practical path back to work.

"I don't just hand out phone numbers. I sit in the waiting room with them. Culturally-aligned navigation means recognizing that the environment itself is a barrier."

Why choose Pivot

Credentials are the floor. Cultural understanding is the difference.

Plenty of providers can run a slideshow. What sets this work apart is knowing why these communities were shut out in the first place — and meeting them with the lived experience and cultural alignment that earns real engagement. The certifications back it up.
